A message from Bishop Philip about the farewell service for Bishop Chris and Ellie on September 14th
Dear brothers and sisters
It will shortly be time for us to say farewell to Bishop Chris, as he takes the next step on his pilgrimage and moves to head up the Ministry Division for the Church of England.
In his new role, Bishop Chris will lead a team that will look to increase both the scale and diversity of those called to lay and ordained ministries throughout the Church of England. It is fitting, then, that our service to say goodbye to him will be a part of our diocesan Vocations Day, in Truro Cathedral, on Saturday, September 14th. I hope that many of you will come for the whole day, which begins at 10am – and more details on that shortly. But some of you might like to come along later, specially to give your support and good wishes to Bishop Chris.
Our service of thanks will begin at 1.30pm. We will have a chance to hear from Bishop Chris and to say goodbye to both him and Ellie, who of course also served as a minister in the diocese until her retirement earlier this summer.
After the service we would like you to join us for tea and cake in the cathedral. Everybody is welcome, so please feel free to share this invitation widely!
In these circumstances, individuals and PCCs sometimes like to give a gift, but Bishop Chris has said he would prefer that the clients of St Petroc’s, the Cornish homelessness charity of which he is president, should benefit from any generosity. If you would like to give a donation in lieu of a gift to Bishop Chris, you could send a donation direct to: St Petrocs Society, Admin & Finance Office, Lander House, 5 Upper Lemon Villas, Truro, Cornwall TR1 2PD. Any cheque should be made out to the St Petrocs Society, and please mark the back of the cheque ‘Bishop Chris’, so it is clear what the donation is for.
I know you will want to join me and many others in saying a huge thank you to Bishop Chris and to Ellie for all they have done for us since they joined the diocese in 2013 – and hope to see you in the cathedral on September 14th.
Yours in Christ,
23rd July 2019
