“Heart of Probus” is a modernisation project to update our beautiful Grade 1 Listed Church for the here and now and indeed for future generations. Our intention is to provide appropriate facilities that cater for a growing family congregation and to secure the building’s full use by the community throughout the year by providing a safe and comfortable environment. Through the use of glass partitions which provide not only soundproofing but maintain the visibility of the existing church building, we hope to provide two additional comfortable community spaces, together with a fully fitted kitchen and toilet (with disabled access).
At present the back of the church, including the Tower Room, are used for a variety of village community events including coffee mornings, concerts, art exhibitions, ‘Tower Tots’ and ‘Little Lights’ (which provide for activities for 0-5 years and tea and and a chat for their carers) and for our very popular informal Messy Church sessions for children and their carers. With an improved heating system and modern facilities these groups would prosper greatly. No more emergency dashes to the public WC or jumping up and down on the old heating vents to keep warm! No more catering for large groups (sometimes well over 100). No more washing dishes in a couple of plastic bowls, without even a sink and drain, or proper hot and cold taps, relying only on a wall mounted boiler.
we have now launched a major appeal to raise the funds needed for this project. Just short of £200,000 is needed in order to start the work. We are hoping that most of this will come from grant funding, but as a community we will also need to raise some of the costs.
Therefore we are asking people to make contributions in three different ways as explained in the leaflet below.
